A COMPREHENSIVE SURVEY OF AUSTRALASIAN SNAKES

‘A comprehensive survey of australasian snakes’ (ACSAS)  is a duo project which explores acoustic instruments interactions, movement, and the possibilities of instrumental timbral density via mapping the movements and interactions of snakes. An attempt to create a thinking-with snakes, rather than mapping such structures using more linear senses, the ACSAS duo will interrogate these forms via complex research into multiphonics on both clarinets and cello, research into the potential of depth of field in harmonic space via combination/difference tones, and research into how density of sound can create a sense of movement. This project also represents a ongoing exploratory meeting point between Sam Dunscombe’s research into sound plasma, and Judith Hamann’s research into sonic ‘collapses.’
